Discover the Manila Metropolitan Theater

Art Deco Majesty and the Soul of Filipino Theater

History & Legacy

The Manila Metropolitan Theater, affectionately known as the “Met,” was inaugurated in 1931. Designed by Juan M. Arellano, one of the Philippines’ most esteemed architects, it is considered the finest expression of Art Deco architecture in the country. It served as the cultural heart of Manila before falling into disrepair during the war and postwar years.

After multiple restoration efforts, the Met has returned to its original grandeur and now hosts a range of performances that celebrate Filipino culture, from zarzuela and komedya to contemporary dance and theater.
